We originally had vinyl plank flooring downstairs in our living room, kitchen and half bath. It was great for resisting water, looked nice and was easy to clean. My complaints are that it felt very hard, like walking on concrete, and if it is laid over anything like dirt, sand, etc. you will feel it when you walk over it.

We used the Allure vinyl planks in the cat's room. It is one of the best looking fake wood floors I've seen. They have that sticky glued edge so each one is attached to the others, while the entire floor floats. Unlike the products that snap together, these things are "waterproof" - important for kitty room.
